Cross Curricular Resources: Learning and Teaching Resources on Beijing 2008 Olympic Games

Introduction

The 2008 Olympic Games will be held in Beijing, and Hong Kong will co-host the Equestrian Events. Hong Kong, and the whole country as well, has been enthusiastically preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games. This great event will stimulate students’ interest in learning about the topic.

The Curriculum Development Institute recommends that schools make use of this valuable learning opportunity to help students broaden their horizons. To help schools capture this learning opportunity, a series of learning and teaching resources relating to the preparation of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Olympic spirit, Olympics and Chinese culture etc. have been developed. The design of the materials emphasizes enquiry learning and aims to widen students’ knowledge about the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, expand their perspectives on it, and enhance their awareness of issues related to this great event.

Teachers may download these materials from the web-links below. They may adapt the materials to fit the particular circumstances of their schools and students. Besides using these materials in the learning and teaching of individual subjects, teachers may also organize a cross-curricular learning activity such as “Project Learning Week on Beijing 2008 Olympic Games” through collaboration among different subjects and re-arranging teaching schedule if necessary.
