Gifted Education - Fung Hon Chu Gifted Education Centre
Background
Fung Hon Chu Gifted Edcuaion Centre, in line with the initiative of Education Commission No. 4 Report (1990), was established in 1995. The Centre was originally located at 7 Shing Mun Road Tsuen Wan and named to commemorate its deceased benefactor Mr. Fung Hon Chu for donating eight million Hong Kong dollars for the phase-one renovation of the Centre. The Centre was relocated at Education Bureau Kowloon Tong Education Services Centre in April 2006. It functions as a resource centre for promoting gifted education in Hong Kong.
Since 1996, more than 1,300 gifted students, who were assessed to be gifted and concurrently exhibited special educational needs, were referred to Fung Hon Chu Gifted Education Centre by Psychological Services Section. From 2001 onward, in order to adopt a broad definition of giftedness and the introduction of the school-based gifted education programmes, all partner schools of Gifted Education Section can nominate students to join the Centre Enrichment Programmes.
