Roles and Responsibilities of the school personnel
in the Primary NET Scheme
A Principal
-
ensures there is an effective professional partnership between the NET and the school’s English teachers
-
provides quality time, both within the mainstream timetable and outside it, for this partnership to develop
-
supports effective school-based evaluation of the Scheme
-
encourages networking amongst schools when appropriate
-
adopts an open and positive attitude towards changes and innovative practices in English language learning and teaching in the school
-
is aware of the NET’s language and cultural needs during staff meetings and social functions
B English Panel Chair (EPC)
-
takes an active role in the students’ learning with the NET e.g. by joining in co-teaching and shared reflection on their lessons
-
cultivates a culture of co-planning and co-teaching in English language learning and teaching
-
ensures the involvement of the whole English Panel in the PNET Scheme
-
helps the NET adapt positively to the HK environment and the school life
-
adopts a positive and open attitude towards innovative learning and teaching strategies
-
supports and promotes the PNET Scheme
-
supports collaboration in the English panel through providing quality time for sharing of good practice at English panel meetings
C NET
-
recognizes the need to establish a partnership with the local English teachers
-
undertakes teaching duties, develops and implements good teaching practices
-
and curriculum materials

engages in co-planning and co-teaching with the local English teachers
-
provides support for the English Panel, including contributing to school-based curriculum development and school-based professional development sessions

undertakes the development and implementation of good learning and teaching

develops an effective bank of resources which includes lesson plans and teaching

organizes and conducts extra-curricular activities related to English learning

D SET

liaises with the ATT

co-ordinates the PNET Scheme in the school

serves as a bridge between the NET and the other teachers of the school

serves as a bridge between the NET and the school management

co-plans and co-teaches with the NET

works collaboratively with the NET to disseminate innovative/effective teaching methods and curriculum resources among the teachers
-
undertakes teaching duties, develops and implements good teaching strategies/ activities and curriculum materials
-
works collaboratively with the NET on school-based curriculum development and the professional development of fellow teachers
-
attends monthly professional development activities organized and conducted by the ATT and disseminates the information to the English Panel
-
has a role in decision making in issues related to the PNET Scheme
-
takes an active role in informing parents about the Scheme
E Deployment and Criteria for Appointment of SET
-
the SET will be working in partnership and is the link person with the NET so the workload should be adjusted
-
time-tabled hours should be given for both NET and SET to work collaboratively and attend monthly professional development activities
-
the person selected as SET should
1. have good interpersonal skills
2. be open to and supportive of change and curriculum innovation
3. be interested and committed in the Scheme
