ATT in School
What has the Advisory Teaching Team done in schools?
The main work of the Advisory Teaching Team is to visit schools and provide professional support to the English Panel.
A) Professional Development

Observe lessons - providing feedback on how to improve the learning and teaching. Observation focus is agreed with the NET and SET beforehand. Lessons can be video-taped so that it can be used on professional development days or parents' day. |

|
Promote peer observation |
|
|
Develop support plans for schools to support learning and teaching and professional development. Plans are varied and they are devised according to the needs of the schools |
|
|
Introduce EMB documents or resources, CDI materials and PSED materials. AT can help in developing teaching materials for/with teachers |
|
|
Conduct monthly workshops (every second Friday of the month), follow up what teachers have learned from workshops and try to help them put the knowledge into practice |
|
|
Support NETs and school teachers to conduct workshops so that they can disseminate what they have learned from the ATT monthly workshops |
|
|
Conduct parents' meeting (some in English with school teachers as translators and some in Cantonese) |
|
|
Communicate with principals, inform them about what SETs, LETs, NETs and ATs are doing in school |
|
|
Support schools in conducting school self-evaluation, follow up their enquiry process |
|
|
Promote collaboration with other NETs & SETs, establish clusters of schools |
|
|
Provide NETs/SETs with information on different professional development courses |
B) Learning and Teaching
|
|
Visit schools on a regular basis - support NETs, ELTAs and SETs at a different level |
|
|
Attend co-planning meetings, use agenda to facilitate the planning process |
|
|
Give suggestions on teaching, creating an English-rich environment, extra-curricular activities, excursions, etc |
|
|
Attend excursions, special days, e.g. Halloween activities if possible |
C) Curriculum Development
|
|
Support NETs, SETs and level teachers to develop school-based curriculum |
D) Building a supportive working relationship
|
|
Solve problems/misunderstanding that have arisen within schools |
|
|
Keep close contact with NETs, SETs and schools through frequent school visits, email, phone or fax |
|
|
Give ideas on deployment issue if necessary |
