Notes : Unless otherwise specified, figures refer to the position as at mid-September of the respective school years.
  (1) Only a very small number of ordinary schools outside the public sector are operating special classes.
  (2) Figures exclude statistics of the ESF special school. Owing to the uniqueness of special schools, their number of teachers includes regular/contract teachers employed under teacher establishment and excludes those paid under various education schemes, funding and grants (such as fractional post cash grant).
  (3) Figures refer to teachers who had received initial teacher training.
  (4) Figures refer to the number of drop-out teachers as a percentage of the total number of teachers in special schools as at mid-September of the preceding school year. "Drop-out teachers" refer to the teachers who were serving in a special school as at mid-September of the preceding school year but were no longer serving in any special schools as at mid-September of the school year concerned.
