Adapted School Learning Materials on Chinese Language for Non-Chinese Speaking Students at Primary and Secondary Levels

The “Supplementary Guide to the Chinese Language Curriculum for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Students” was announced in November 2008 and distributed to schools in December 2008, with a series of packages of teaching reference materials.  In view of practical needs of schools, EDB is collecting school-based materials from experienced schools, adapting and re-arranging them into various sets of learning materials at Primary and Secondary levels.  These materials are uploaded to EDB school intranet (website: http://cd.edb.gov.hk/chi/resource/) and will be dispatched by phases for schools’ trial use to support their implementation of the Supplementary Guide.

The first set of these school materials was adapted from Li Sing Tai Hang School for the primary level and from Delia Memorial School (Broadway), sponsored by the Quality Education Fund, for the secondary level.  This set of materials had been uploaded in June and dispatched to schools in September 2009.  The second set was adapted from Islamic Primary School for the primary level and from Delia Memorial School (Broadway), sponsored by the Quality Education Fund, for the secondary level.  This set of materials had been uploaded in June and dispatched to schools in September 2010.  Afterwards, the EDB, in collaboration with schools, developed some extended learning modules, pitched at higher learning levels for NCS students’ reference and learning.  It is expected that these modules could lead NCS students with higher Chinese standards to the exit of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education.
