Existing Fundings

Capacity Enhancement Grant

Target of service:

Aided, government and caput schools, schools under the Direct Subsidy Scheme

Aim of service:

To relieve teachers' workload so that teachers will have enhanced
capacity to concentrate on the following three areas which have been identified as critical tasks in the education reform -
(a) curriculum development, including the integration of information technology
in teaching;
(b) enhancing students' language proficiency; and
(c) coping with the diverse and special learning needs of students with varied
abilities, ranging from the gifted ones to those with learning difficulties.

Application method:

Starting from the 2007/08 school year, schools are no longer required to apply for the recurrent CEG annually.  The CEG for the new school year will be disbursed to eligible schools in August1 according to the number of approved classes2 of the new school year.

Intensive Learning Support Grant (ILSG) under the New Funding Mode

Target of service:

For pupils with special educational needs or low academic achievements in ordinary primary schools

Aim of service:

Schools should provide appropriate school-based support services to cater for the genuine needs of the pupils

Application method:

Government and aided primary schools can apply for participation in the New Funding Mode.  EDB will offer schools with an ILSG according to the genuine needs and the number of pupils concerned.

School-Based Support Scheme Grant

Target of service:

For schools with intake of newly arrived children, including newly arrived NCS students

Aim of service:

Schools can flexibly make use of the grant to run school-based support programmes for the newly arrived children (including newly arrived NCS students), to help them integrate into the education system, for example, by running supplementary language classes.
