Teacher Professional Development on Catering for Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
|
To enhance the professional capacity of teachers in catering for students with SEN, the EDB launched a five-year teacher professional development framework on integrated education (the Framework) in the 2007/08 school year. Under the Framework, we offer structured Basic, Advanced and Thematic (BAT) Courses for serving teachers. Schools and other stakeholders had positive views on the BAT Courses. In view of this, the EDB continues to provide the BAT Courses for teachers starting from the 2012/13 school year. Schools are encouraged to arrange teachers to attend the courses in a systematic manner. It is expected that a critical mass of teachers will have received relevant training in each school and they will guide their counterparts to implement integrated education through the Whole School Approach and to provide appropriate support for students with SEN. For details, please refer to the circular at the following EDB website: http://www.edb.gov.hk/UtilityManager/circular/upload/EDBC/EDBC12008E.pdf

| In addition to the BAT Courses, teacher may attend the Professional Development Programme for Teachers (Catering for Diverse Learning Needs) organized by the Hong Kong Institute of Education and other structured training courses on special education. The EDB will also organize workshops, seminars and experience-sharing sessions as appropriate on topics related to catering for students with SEN for principals, teachers and teaching assistants according to their professional needs. |
