Policy on the “Developing an Active and Healthy School Campus” (School Exemplars)
Background
- One of the curriculum aims of PE is to help students develop an active and healthy lifestyle; and
- “Physical inactivity” is recognised as a global public health issue. In line with the target of “Towards 2025 Strategy and Action Plan to Prevent and Control Non-communicable Diseases in Hong Kong” leaded by Food and Health Bureau, a 10% relative reduction in prevalence of insufficient physical activity among adolescents and adults by 2025. EDB is committed to help students adopt an active and healthy lifestyle to facilitate students to accumulate at least 60 minutes of moderate- to vigorous-intensity physical activities daily.
Objectives
- To help schools to develop “An Active and Healthy School Campus” Policy;
- To develop effective learning and teaching strategies to enable students to practice the drills (learnt in PE lessons) in their leisure time;
- To help schools provide space for students to take part in physical activities during recess and lunch break; and
- To help schools establish a sporting culture.
