Workshop on Teachers’ Professional Identity

Description

The Education Bureau (EDB) attaches great importance to the professional development of newly-joined teachers and the cultivation of their professional values. To this end, the EDB provides core training for them, which includes a 6-hour Workshop on “Teachers’ Professional Identity”. Launched in November 2020, the Workshop aims to help newly-joined teachers understand their professional roles and demonstrate professional values and conduct. The Workshop covers the following key areas: 1) Introduction to T-standard+, 2) Case studies and 3) Sharing sessions by experienced principals and teachers.

1. Highlights

◆ Introduction to T-standard+

The trainer introduced the background, overall framework and stage descriptors of “T-standard+”, elaborating on its three professional roles of teachers. Through interactive activities, newly-joined teachers engaged in reflection and exchange, followed by group discussions to deepen their understanding of “T-standard+”.

◆ Case Studies

During the case study session, newly-joined teachers explored different cases adapted from everyday teaching and teacher-student interactions with their group members. Together, they examined issues related to professional values and conduct, applying the eight codes outlined in Guidelines on Teachers’ Professional Conduct and the three professional roles of the “T-Standard+”. This encouraged thoughtful consideration of how to uphold professional conduct and demonstrate teachers' professionalism in various scenarios.

◆ Sharing by Experienced Principals and Teachers

Experienced principals and teachers shared stories from their own educational journeys, focusing on the cultivation of professional values and what it means to be a “good teacher.” Their real-life examples helped newly-joined teachers gain a deeper understanding of the professional roles in “T-Standard+”, illustrating how to become caring cultivators, inspirational co-constructors and committed role models in both teaching and student engagement.
