[Archive] Language Proficiency Assessment (LPA)

General Information

  • The Language Proficiency Assessment (LPA) (formerly known as the Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers (LPAT)) provided a channel for teachers/aspiring teachers to attain the Language Proficiency Requirement (LPR) for teaching English/Putonghua.
  • The LPA(English Language) comprises five papers.  They are Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking and Classroom Language Assessment (CLA).  The LPA(Putonghua) comprises four papers. They are Listening and Recognition (聆聽與認辨), Pinyin (拼音), Speaking (口語) and CLA (課堂語言運用).
  • From the 2024/25 school year onwards, the written and speaking assessments of the LPA jointly conducted by the Education Bureau (EDB) and the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) have ceased to be offered.  The CLA will continue to be administered by the EDB and is offered to serving teachers only.
