Tseung Kwan O Methodist Primary School

Project title  Promotion of English Reading through School Library Activities: Magic Readers 2012-13

  • P.3 students with low reading motivation in English
  • 1st semester ( 20 students of mixed reading abilities)
  • 2nd semester (20 students of low reading abilities)

  • Bilingual books are used for the promotion of English reading.
  • Parents are encouraged to participate in the pre-reading activities of their children.
Programme details

 The programme held twice during the academic year.

 

  • 10 sessions were held per semester.
  • The participants were provided with Chinese and English versions of selected titles. The theme of four of the selected titles is ‘Friendship’ which matched with the P.3 English Curriculum.
  • There were four instructors, each led a group of 5 students.
  • The first and the last sessions were used for project introduction, delivery of questionnaires and evaluation.
  • Parents of the participants were encouraged to read the Chinese version of the selected reading materials with their children at home before attending the class.
  • The instructors went through the English version of selected titles with their group.
  • Each session comprised different activities, for example, reading selected English titles, games, drama and extended reading.
