Teacher Professional Development on Catering for Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

To enhance the professional capacity of teachers in catering for students with SEN, the EDB launched a five-year teacher professional development framework on integrated education (the Framework) in the 2007/08 school year.  Under the Framework, we offer structured Basic, Advanced and Thematic (BAT) Courses for serving teachers.  Schools and other stakeholders had positive views on the BAT Courses.  In view of this, the EDB continues to provide the BAT Courses for teachers starting from the 2012/13 school year.  Schools are encouraged to arrange teachers to attend the courses in a systematic manner.  It is expected that a critical mass of teachers will have received relevant training in each school and they will guide their counterparts to implement integrated education through the Whole School Approach and to provide appropriate support for students with SEN.  For details, please refer to the circular at the following EDB website:

Professional Development Programme for Mental Health

To raise teachers’ concerns on mental health so as to enhance schools' capacity to identify and support students with mental health needs, the Education Bureau (EDB) conducts “Professional Development Programme for Mental Health: Courses on Mental Health Promotion at Schools and Supporting Students with Mental Health Needs" starting from the 2017/18 school year. The programme includes elementary training for teachers at large and in-depth training for designated teachers (e.g. teachers of the Guidance Team). It is required that in the three-year period as from the 2017/18 school year (i.e. by the end of the 2019/20 school year), at least one teacher per school will have completed the Elementary Course; and at least one designated teacher will have completed the In-depth Course.
