Fringe Benefits

  • NETs are entitled to the fringe benefits (including Special Allowance, Passage/Baggage Allowance and Medical Insurance) under the NET Scheme in Primary Schools / Enhanced NET Scheme in Secondary Schools only if their normal place of residence is established to be outside Hong Kong.

Forms (revised in August 2022)

Note: A NET will not be eligible for the Special Allowance if he/she or his/her spouse is already receiving the same allowance or any other housing benefits from his/her own employer. Similarly, a NET will not be eligible for passages, baggage and medical allowance if he/she or his/her spouse is provided with similar benefits by his/her employer. All NETs receiving fringe benefits under the NET Scheme in Primary Schools / Enhanced NET Scheme in Secondary Schools are required to report changes of marital status and family particulars, which may affect their entitlement, to the schools.

Retention Incentive

Since the 2005/06 school year, a retention incentive has been introduced to provide additional incentive for serving NETs to continue their service in Hong Kong. NETs who have completed at least two years of continuous service under the NET Schemes may apply for the retention incentive. Applications by NETs for the retention incentive shall be made each school year through their schools.

Please refer to EDB Circular No. 2/2013 on "Retention Incentive for Native-speaking English Teachers (NETs) under the Enhanced NET Scheme in Secondary Shools / NET Scheme in Primary Schools" for details.
