  •

  • Buddy Reading Scheme
    • The teacher-librarian invited English teachers to nominate 10 reading buddies from P.4 students and 20 students from P.2 to join the programme.
    • Before the programme commenced, questionnaires were issued to participating students and their parents.
    • Different types of reading resources were used to broaden students’ reading horizon(please refer to the implementation schedule for details).
    • Stories which were funny with simple sentence structures were selected to arouse students’ reading interest. Students were asked to follow the reading schedule (please refer to the implementation schedule for details).

    • Both P.2 and P.4 students of the programme were encouraged to join the English story telling competition organised by the English Panel. The English teachers provided training to those students joining the competition.
    • After the programme was completed, the teacher-librarian interviewed some students and issued questionnaires to the participating students and their parents.
    • This programme was evaluated by comparing the data of the pre- and post- programme survey, interviewing students, observing lessons, collecting teachers’ feedback, as well as looking at the borrowing rate of English books in the school library, and students’ performance in the English Story Telling Competition.

    • Students marked their reading records on the record sheets posted on the book cabinets in their classrooms.
    • A “Read Aloud Day” was arranged at the end of the term to encourage students to read the themed books. Presents were given to students with good performance.
