Schools are required to draw up a contingency plan in advance to address all likely situations that may arise during inclement weather, and review the plan from time to time to ensure that it remains comprehensive. The contingency measures should be practical and feasible, and all relevant parties (including staff, parents, students, and school bus service providers) should be clearly informed of the situation.
If any related warning/special alert is announced by the HKO and/or Labour Department, schools should pay attention to the safety of teachers and students and take appropriate preventive measures when conducting teaching activities.
In general, very hot weather does not affect indoor teaching activities. Except for the rooms/facilities constructed by the schools’ own fund, all standard teaching facilities (including classrooms and special rooms), student activity centres and assembly halls in public sector schools, which are used directly for teaching and learning or scheduled with regular student activities, are classified as “eligible facilities” and provided with air-conditioning systems.
When conducting land or water activities in a natural environment and physical education activities under hot weather, please refer to the relevant sections of the“Guidelines on Outdoor Activities”, and Appendix II “Measures to Prevent Excessive Sun Exposure” and Appendix III “Points to Notes for Physical Activities in Hot and Humid Weather” of “Safety Guidelines on Physical Education Key Learning Area for Hong Kong Schools”, and make appropriate arrangements accordingly.
